Ambassador
Solomont hosts reception celebrating art exchange between the Boston
Museum of Fine Arts and the Prado
Alan D. Solomont, the Ambassador of the United States to Spain and Andorra,
and his wife, Susan, hosted a reception at their residence on March 14 in
celebration of the arrival of John Singer Sargent’s "The Daughters of Edward
Darley Boit" to Madrid. The iconic piece, which will be displayed alongside
Diego Velázquez’s "Las Meninas" at the Museo Nacional del Prado for the next
three months, is on loan from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). Malcolm
Rogers, Ann and Graham Gund Director of the MFA, Erica Hirshler, the MFA’s Croll
Senior Curator of American Paintings, and Plácido Arango, the Chairman of the
Board of the Prado, were just a few of the distinguished guests to attend the

Ambassador Solomont supports launch of plan to boost U.S. tourism and investment in Madrid
On March 9, Ambassador Solomont and his wife, Susan, participated in the
inaugural ceremony of the “Plan Estados Unidos,” the City of Madrid’s
program that seeks to stimulate business ties and tourism between the United
States and Madrid. In his remarks, the Ambassador praised Madrid Mayor
Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón for putting together such a comprehensive development
plan and underlined the importance of increased tourism and investment for
both the U.S. and Spain.

Remarks at
the UN Commission on the Status of Women Fifteen years ago, delegates
from 189 countries met in Beijing for the Fourth World Conference on Women.
It was a call to action – a call to the global community to work for the
laws, reforms, and social changes necessary to ensure that women and girls
everywhere finally have the opportunities they deserve to fulfill their own
God-given potentials and contribute fully to the progress and prosperity of
their societies
